Original Church on Duquesne Avenue

The birthplace of the Madonna Del Castello Parish in the Pittsburgh area was the temporary church in the Mckinley Italian Club Hall in Rankin. Father Vincent Giovannitti celebrated the first Mass on Easter Sunday April 4, 1920. A worship area was set up in the club hall and served as the church for the next three years.

The original church on Duquesne Avenue was completed in 1923, and the dedication of the Duquesne Avenue Church took place on August 5, 1923. This facility was the home for Madonna Del Castello Parish for 43 years until July 19, 1966 – when the last mass was served.
